Ang Lee, born in 1954 in Pingtun/Taiwan, attended the Academy of Arts in his homeland. In 1975, he traveled to the USA and finished his studies to become a director in Illinois. Following this, he studied film production in New York, where he still resides with his wife and two sons. During his studies, he assisted Spike Lee, a representative of the black cinema, during the production of his film “Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads” (1983). His talent as a script writer was discovered early on. After his studies, he initially spent many years as a script writer before he was finally able to shoot his own first film.
